Ten Gifts That Melt a Teacher’s Heart

*This is an affiliate post and I will receive commission through items purchased through the links.*

What person doesn’t like nice a gift?  I can still recall the first gift I received as a first-year teacher.  It was a used stuffed animal from a middle school student.  After years of keeping it in my closet, I finally sent it to my local thrift store. Hopefully, that little stuff animal made someone else happy like it did me.

I still get happy when someone gives me a gift, and I have listed the best teacher gifts that I truly appreciated from students, administrators, and my district.

  1. Gift Cards-Who doesn’t love a gift card to your favorite lunch spot or your favorite shop?  Gift cards come in handy when you’re out shopping and remember that you can save money on lunch.  These are great ideas, especially if you know what the teacher likes.
  2. Personalized Gifts-Teachers love gifts that represent their name, so why not purchase personalized notepads, coffee cups with their initial, or sticky notes?  We are very territorial over knickknacks and office supplies.  Observe a teacher’s room and you will see items we want to keep have our initials etched on them or a sticker with our name on it. Why not buy cute, inexpensive, personalized stickers to make a teacher smile?
  3. Colored Pens-I haven’t met one teacher who does not have a favorite pen.  We love color to differentiate from the students’ blue and black ink.  We use color pens to grade, write passes, and take notes.  I love my Pilot G2 gel ink pens.
  4. Sharpies-Sharpies are the fine point markers used for grading.  The gold and silver Sharpies are great for marking on electronics and dark binders.
  5. Totes-If you are a Thirty-One representative, I can assume that a large percent of your consumers are teachers.  The cute, whimsical, personalized totes are great to use as a workbag or lunch bag.
  6. A Great Book-Teachers love to stay in touch with the outside world, and they love to see what books are making the bestseller list.  A great fiction book or the latest nonfiction with a buzz around it would be a great gift.
  7. Journals-Go to any meeting within a school and you will see a teacher taking notes using a journal.  At the beginning of the school year, I bought three journals.  One for my desk, my nightstand, and a backup one if the other two become filled.
  8. Name Plate for a Desk-Teachers like cute, whimsical items including name plates.  I received my first name plate from the wood shop teacher during my first-year teaching.  It was too cute, with books and apples on each end.  Check out Etsy for more great ideas.
  9. Box of Chocolates-A nice quality box of chocolates would make any teacher’s heart melt.  Esther Price is a hometown favorite in my city.  Try to buy local and add a sweet message of thanks with it.
  10. Snacks and Soft Drinks-You can win over any teacher’s heart with a gift basket of their favorite treats.  A small gift basket with a can of their favorite drink and salty snacks is sure to make someone’s day.

Here’s my list, and I’m sticking to it. Show a teacher how much you appreciate them for their hard work within and outside the classroom.  Teachers teach your kids, but they also help with advising clubs, attending sporting events, and chaperoning extracurricular activities.  So, any acknowledgement or thanks will be greatly appreciated.

What gifts do you give to your child’s teacher? Comment below, I would love to hear from you.

How I Paid $20,000 on My Student Loan in One Year

A year has passed since my commitment to pay off my student loan debt began.  I made the commitment in November 2017, but I consider March 2018 the date that I actually began making large payments towards the debt.  To date, I have paid off $15,448.49 in principle of my student loan.  I did not […]

How to Create a Welcoming Classroom Environment

Teachers are pillars of the community and are esteemed as leaders of the educational system.  Our mannerisms, behaviors, speaking skills, and writing are taught, modeled, and reinforced.  We stand at our doors and encourage students to come into our room with open minds, ready to learn, practicing good citizenship or behavior.  As a middle/high school […]
